Ageism is the stereotyping and discrimination of a person based on their age.
Older adults arguably take the brunt of ageism in the U.S., with a recent New York Times article reporting that 30 percent of people age 53 and older (who responded to a Clemson University study) say they have been mistreated because of their age. Sixty-three percent of those who responded said they have been victims of discrimination in one way or another.

The American Seniors Housing Association (ASHA) is an organization based in Washington D.C. and led by executives who are involved in stages of seniors housing including financing, development and operations. Membership includes both for-profit and non-for-profit operators who develop market-driven housing options, services and amenities for seniors.

ALFA
Despite its name, the Assisted Living Federation of America (ALFA) is an organization that encompasses every stage and facet of senior living, not only assisted living.
Headquartered in Washington D.C., ALFA is the largest national organization focused on professionally operated senior living with more than 500 member communities including both multi-community corporations and regional residences. ALFA is a non-profit advocacy organization led by CEO Richard Grimes who contributes an editorial column to the ALFA-owned publication Assisted Living Executive.
The annual ALFA Conference and Expo drew more than 2,000 attendees in 2011. The upcoming 2012 Expo is scheduled for May 16-18.
Getting On the Same Level
Keynote speaker at this year’s Advanced Sales Summit, Lyman “Manny” Steil, Chairperson of the International Listening Leaders Institute, offered valuable advice on the importance of communication in relationship building, including senior sales.
